Kara Hamilton

Kara Anne Hamilton passed away peacefully in Tiburon, CA, on Monday, July 3, 2017 at age 41. Kara leaves behind her husband, Matthew Novotny; daughter, Petra Novotny, age 9; and son, Nicholas Novotny, 7. A beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, Kara touched countless people with her generosity, kindness and love.

Kara was born on July 31, 1975, in Annapolis, MD, to Kathleen McFeaters and Stan Hamilton. She graduated from Severn School in Severna Park, MD, where she participated in soccer and lacrosse.

Kara graduated with honors from Florida State University, majoring in broadcast journalism. She worked as a writer and on-air talent for the Sunshine Network, now Fox Sports Sun, and wrote for the Florida A&M University newspaper. After college, Kara studied acting in New York City and achieved success as an actress and model, appearing in indie films as well as numerous national commercials and magazine covers.

Kara and Matt moved from New York to San Francisco in 2005, where she continued to thrive professionally. She recently authored the celebrated children's book "A New Leash on Life."

Kara's life's best work was raising her two children. She fought cancer bravely and selflessly until the end, wanting to be with her family as long as possible. She has been an inspiration to all for her courage, grace and enduring love.

In addition to her husband and children, Kara is survived by her mother, Kathleen McGlew; her father, Stan Hamilton; and her sister Michelle Lonchar. She was preceded in death by her sister Jennifer Hamilton.
Services to celebrate Kara's life will be held August 26 at Fernwood Cemetery in Mill Valley, CA. Details will be provided at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Kara's memory to Camp Kesem, a nationwide community that supports children through and beyond their parents' cancer, and the Humane Society of the United States, as a tribute to Kara's love for animals.

Condolences can be sent to Matt Novotny and Stan Hamilton at 6 Eden Lane, Tiburon, CA 94920 and Kathleen and Don McGlew and Michelle Lonchar at 302 Epping Way, Annapolis, MD 21401.
