Benjamin Glyde Wells II

Benjamin Glyde Wells II (November 22, 1932-September 11, 2016) passed away suddenly on September 11 at his home in Blue Hill, Maine.

Ben was born Philadelphia, PA. He served his country honorably as a Marine medic in the Korean War. After his service Ben returned to California, where he attended UC Davis before settling in San Francisco.

An accomplished sailor in a variety of classes of boats, Ben was a longtime member of the San Francisco, St. Francis, and Kollegewidgwok (Blue Hill) yacht clubs. Besides sailing, Ben was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and chef. He was a consummate entertainer who was known for hosting epic parties and events. Universally loved and admired, Ben's passing leaves a void that can never be filled.

Ben is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Kathryn; three children, Benjamin Ill, Barbara (McCrum), and Timothy; as well as nine grandchildren and a host of other grieving relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Ben Wells' memory be sent to the UCSF Dyslexia Center, Lockbox 45339, San Francisco, CA 94145 or makeagift.ucsf.edu.

A memorial will take place on Tuesday, November 22 at the San Francisco Yacht Club in Tiburon, CA, from 3-6 pm.

Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com.
