Everett Girtler spacee Everett Girtler

Everett "Ev" Anton Girtler, a 53-year resident of Tiburon, died peacefully at his home Sept. 13, 2013, after a short illness. He was 92 years old.

Mr. Girtler was born in Chicago. After graduating from Northwestern University in 1943, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.

He and his wife, Betty, met through friends and were married for 68 years. They moved to California in 1960 and settled in Tiburon. Mr. Girtler started a company called Furniture Rentals of California in San Francisco. He eventually sold the company and started buying apartment buildings in Marin and San Francisco; he continued to manage them until his death.

Mr. Girtler and his wife were avid bicycle riders. He organized and led many cycling outings and trips, both in the U.S. and overseas, with their friends.

In addition to wife of 68 years Betty "B.J." Girtler, Mr. Girtler is survived by his daughter, Susan Girtler of Sausalito; two grandchildren, Alanna Torres of Boston and Alexi Torres of Santa Monica; a niece, Darcy Jarrett of San Anselmo; two nephews, Jeffrey Girtler of Tiburon and Kevin Girtler of Novato; and their families. His brother, Vernon Girtler, predeceased him.
No services or memorials have been planned at his request. For family contact information, email sgirtler2@aol.com.
