Gisela Gerner Zech

Gisela Gerber Zech passed away on Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 at Marin General Hospital after suffering a severe stroke. She leaves us at the all too young age of 70. She was surrounded by her loving family and was very comfortable and at peace. Gisela was the beloved wife of Ron Zech of Belvedere and mother of two sons, Kurt and Erik, and their respective wives Amy and Missy, also of Marin. Gisela was also the very proud and involved grandmother of six incredibly lucky grandchildren, Carly, Freddy, Billy, Ava, Owen and Zoe. Gisela is also survived by her brother Robert Gerber and wife Ingrid of Germany. Gisela was born and raised in Bayside, NY, but has been a proud Marin resident for over 40 years. Gisela and Ron met in her freshman year of college at Valparaiso University. She subsequently went on to the University of Wisconsin for a teaching degree. They have been together for 53 wonderful years. Gisela was an amazing spouse, mother and friend. She was caring, positive, engaging and a truly wonderful soul. She had a smile that could light up a room and a personality that endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She loved to travel, ski, golf, play tennis, garden, hike the stairs of Belvedere, relax on the beach, swim in the ocean, and more than anything spend quality time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed but will live on through a lifetime of wonderful memories and through all her grandchildren who adore her. She is now with her parents in Heaven smiling down upon us.

A celebration of Gisela's life will be held at The Outdoor Art Club in Mill Valley at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 17th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gisela and Ron Zech Endowed Scholarship Fund at Valparaiso University, 1100 Campus Drive South, Valparaiso, IN 46383, Attn: Lisa Hollander. The endowment provides college scholarships for members of the armed forces that have been seriously wounded, or their dependents.
