Kemy Vaccaro Orson spacee Kemy Vaccaro Orson

Kemy Vaccaro Orson, a former longtime Tiburon resident, died of complications of a stroke Jan. 14, with her family at her side at her Petaluma home. She was 90.

Mrs. Orson was born in Santiago, Chile, to Jose Vaccaro and Elba Ponce. She and her husband, John Carrillo Orson (originally Oyarzun), a dentist, were married in 1946 and moved to California in 1964. They lived in San Francisco and Sausalito before moving to Belvedere in 1973. Later, they moved to Paradise Cay.

The Orsons' children attended Belvedere Nursery School and St. Hilary School, and she was a member of St. Hilary Catholic Parish. In the past, like many of the St. Hilary women, she volunteered at the Tiburon Thrift Shop, whose sales benefit St. Hilary outreach programs and other local churches and organizations. The Orsons were members of the Belvedere Tennis Club.

Mrs. Orson helped her husband run his dental practice, and she served as president and vice president of the Marin Dental Auxiliary, which was an educational, fundraising and social offshoot of the Marin County Dental Society.

When he retired, they divided their time between their home and a vacation home in Mazatlan, Mexico.

Known as "Nona" to her family after her grandchildren arrived, she loved cooking for her family, reading and playing cards. She enjoyed painting still lifes, landscapes and seascapes.

In addition to husband John, Mrs. Orson is survived by six children, Kemy Oyarzun and Juan Oyarzun of Santiago, Chile, Patricia Hauser of Cape Cod, Mass., Pia Bacigalupi of Rohnert Park, Claudia Terry of Petaluma and Edward Orson of Larkspur; 11 grandchildren, Marcelo Cavallari of Berkeley, John Oyarzun of Palo Alto, Jessica Cziska of Boston, John Hauser of Boston, Chris Bacigalupi of Petaluma, Ryan Terry of Berkeley, Cameron Terry of Petaluma, Elizabeth Orson of Santa Barbara and Raul Beltran-Orson, Gabriela Beltran-Orson and Giselle Orson, all of Larkspur; as well as three great-grandchildren, Ignacio, Lucca and Aubrey.

Arrangements were handled by Parent-Sorensen Mortuary in Petaluma. A service was held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Sausalito. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St., Petaluma, CA 94952.
