Mary Katherine Vogelheim
10/31/1929 ~ 8/14/2016

Mary passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with her husband and children by her side. She left the world with a big Irish smile on her face and fond memories in her heart.
Raised in Palos Verdes, Mary grew up on Southern California's beaches with her three siblings. She attended St. Mary-of-the-Woods College but was destined for global adventures. In 1951, Mary became a flight attendant for Pan Am. She was awarded the title "Miss World Trade" and sent on a world tour, acting as an ambassador for the airline. This career led her to San Francisco, where, on a blind date, she met her partner of 62 years, Paul Vogelheim.
In each other, Paul and Mary found their match — with a shared love for family, faith, and friendships. In 1954, they were married. They made their home in Mill Valley, where they raised five children. Mary imparted her passion for the outdoors and travel, organizing hikes, road trips, beach days, tennis games, summers in Lake Tahoe, and bike rides through Golden Gate Park. She was a tireless advocate for her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren, but she always found time to volunteer in her community.
Of Mary's many admirable qualities, one of the most notable was her sense of humor. Her laugh was infectious and the twinkle in her eye was kind, welcoming, and even a tad mischievous. She lit up every room she entered and warmed the hearts of everyone she met. She lived a full life and instilled in her children and grandchildren a sense of joy and gratitude. Above all else, Mary's Catholic faith was her foundation. The day before she passed, she announced from a sleep, "I am so excited to be getting my wings."
Mary is survived by her husband, Paul C. Vogelheim, and five children: Paul D. Vogelheim (Rebecca) of Jackson Hole, WY; Charles Vogelheim (Christine) of Mill Valley; Katherine Vogelheim (John Hansen) of Tiburon; Nanette Gordon of San Francisco; and Thomas Vogelheim (Sabrina Simmons) of Fairfax. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 26th at St. Hillary Catholic Church in Tiburon at 4:00 P.M., followed by a reception to celebrate her life.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mary's name to Marin Advocates for Children: www.marinadvocates.org.
Assisted by Monte's Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo.
