As you know all too well, your advertising dollar should be spent where it is most effective. An ad placed in The Ark, the weekly community newspaper serving Tiburon, Belvedere and Strawberry, has a number of advantages. Consider these:

* You will target the right market. Our readers are among the most affluent, well-educated consumers in the nation. In the May 1998 Worth magazine's list of "The 250 Richest Towns in America," Belvedere ranked # 7 and Tiburon, #41. The 1997 demographic projection by the Association of Bay Area Governments estimated that Belvedere's mean household income for the year 2000 would be $251,000; Tiburon's, $164,000 and Strawberry's, $140,000.

Ark readers rank among the leaders of the business, professional, civic and social life of the San Francisco Bay Area. Ark readers entertain in their homes at least once a month and dine out more frequently. Arkreaders are world travelers. In the coming year, 37 percent plan a European trip, 30 percent will go to Hawaii, 36 percent will travel to the East Coast and 37 percent will spend time at Lake Tahoe and in the Sierra.
* Your ad will be read. The Arkreaches residents who have subscribed to the paper. They've paid for it and want it delivered to their homes. Unlike third class flyers in your mailbox or free newspapers available in supermarkets, The Ark is well-read, cover-to-cover, by both young and old. Our loyal readers rely on their local newspaper not only for news but for suggestions on where to go, what to purchase and whom to contact
.
* You will get the highest, exclusive market penetration. With an average weekly circulation of 3,400, The Ark is delivered to more households on the Tiburon Peninsula than either the Marin Independent Journal or the San Francisco Chronicle. The Ark has an almost 50% penetration in Belvedere and Tiburon households.

* Your ad will appear in a quality, award-winning publication that is respected - and rewarded - by both readers and our newspaper peers. The California Newspaper Publishers Association, in its annual "Better Newspaper Contest," has given a steady stream of awards over the years to The Ark in such categories as Best Investigative or Enterprise Reporting, Best In-Depth Reporting, Best Writing, Best Advertising Promotion, Best Feature Story, Best Local Columnist, Best Editorial Cartoon, Best Front Page and Best Lifestyle Coverage.

In its most recent survey, The Ark was a winner again. Ninety-six percent of the readers surveyed judged the quality of the writing and the coverage of local news "very good" to "excellent."

* Longer staying power. The Ark is read, clipped, mailed to friends and relatives, even magnet-fastened to refrigerators and sent to school for show-and-tell. Some readers keep their copies for days and days, treating them more like magazines than newspapers. Ads in The Ark are often seen many times, a definite bonus.

* Higher visibility. Because of The Ark's tabloid size and page layout, your ad is literally showcased and is easily visible to your prospects.
* Lower cost. Your ad in The Ark, running weekly for a year, costs less than advertising in any other Bay Area subscription newspaper reaching a comparable audience.

* The Tiburon Peninsula. This coveted suburban community on San Francisco Bay has about 7,400 households and a total population of about 16,000. At last count, Tiburon's population was about 8,500, Belvedere's 2,300 and Strawberry and the unincorporated areas about 4,600. The wonderful weather and incredible views prompt some to call it "The Jewel of The Bay." As we hope is obvious by now, we feel the most effective way to reach its inhabitants is through the pages of The Ark. Our many advertisers apparently agree.

The Ark was founded in 1973 by a small group of local people eager and able to publish a real hometown newspaper. We are proud to acknowledge that their goal has been reached. All modesty aside, we were very proud to receive the 1998 Tiburon Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Business Citizens of the Year award.

We invite you to take advantage of the many advantages of advertising in The Ark.
