Virginia ‘Ginny’ Boesel
Ginny Boesel
Virginia “Ginny” Boesel, a longtime former Belvedere resident, died June 12, 2010, after a period of declining health, at her residence at The Tamalpais retirement community in Greenbrae. She was 77.

Born in Rye, New York, she graduated from Pembroke College at Brown University, where she met her future husband, Richard “Dick” E. Boesel, Jr. After their marriage, they lived in Greenwich, Connecticut, and starting raising their family. In 1968, the Boesels moved to Belvedere.

Mrs. Boesel earned her real estate license and eventually became a broker. She worked for the big local firms of the day, Kay Noah and Grubb and Ellis Real Estate. Eventually, she moved over to the Frank Howard Allen firm in Tiburon.

After her husband died in 1995, she moved to Greenbrae. She remarried, to Paul Moran, and they went on many trips together. He died in 2003.

“She had a strong spirit and zest for life that made her a good friend to many,” said her daughter, Betsy. “She always had a smile on her face, even when things were down. She never hesitated to jump in and lend a hand, even if it was wrapping presents at the mall or making a meal for a needy friend.”

She loved spending time with her family, especially at the holidays. In her spare time, she also loved to attend the theater and play bridge and dominos with friends and in tournaments.

A longtime community volunteer, she served in a significant leadership role with the American Red Cross of Greenwich, was on the board of directors for the California Multiple Sclerosis Society, and enjoyed volunteering for Hospice of Marin. She once received an award for having given eight gallons of blood — not all at one time, of course.

She is survived by her sons, Doug Boesel of Sebastopol, David Boesel of Fairfax, John Boesel of Ross, and a daughter, Betsy Boesel Reynolds of Spokane, Washington; her sister, Marion Ruth of Rolling Hills; and nine grandchildren, Dana and Derek Boesel, Charlotte and Willie Boesel, Alexandra and Nick Boesel; and Steven, Greg and Jill Reynolds.

A service has been held. Donations in her memory can be made to the Tomorrow Fund, c/o The Tamalpais, 501 Via Casitas, Greenbrae, CA 94904; or Hospice by the Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94939.
