Belvedere Fencers Win Med at NorCal Qualifier
Belvedere residents Zachary Ostroff and Jonathan Richards made a strong showing at the NorCal Fencing competition, Sunday, May 4, at Golden Gate Fencing in San Francisco. Ostroff placed third in the north coast region’s Cadet (under age 16) Epee division and Richards placed second in the region’s 12-14 Epee division, earning the right to compete in the U.S. Fencing Association’s National Championships in San Jose this summer. The two fencers, both students at the Branson School, have been fencing since age 11 with coach Ted Eckersdorff of Mill Valley.
Other area youth who will compete at the national championships include Will Newell, and Isabel and Lucas Ostroff. They will compete in Epee-style fencing, although Saber and Foil (boys and girls) divisions also exist. For questions concerning the sport, contact Eckersdorff through the Branson School.
