Artist explores different techniques in Town Hall show

When Alexandra Louie was 7 years old and living in her native Ukraine, she was asked to draw a still life of something at home as a school art assignment. Because Louie’s father was an artist, Louie’s teacher believed he had drawn the vase of flowers the girl turned in. Louie still remembers her teacher confronting her mother and chiding her for the deception. “I hate being accused of lying,” Louie says, “and I was so hurt to think that my teacher didn’t believe me.” That one negative experience in grade school didn’t stop Louie from drawing every chance she got. Today, the San Anselmo resident is a full-fledged artist who is currently exhibiting her mixed-media works through Aug. 30 at Tiburon Town Hall. An artist’s reception is set for 4-6 p.m. Aug. 11.
