Yellow Bus pass sales slow as officials rally behind funding efforts

As a Marin civil grand jury report encouraged more countywide school-bus programs and a county transportation agency signaled it could unlock more than $1 million to help fund them, Belvedere and Tiburon officials learned sales for the local Yellow Bus Challenge’s discounted passes are off 30 percent what they were at this time last year. Program coordinator Jack Ryan elicited frowns around the table June 12 when he reported to the Tiburon Peninsula Traffic Relief Joint Powers Authority board parents have bought just 700 one-way passes since sales for the 2018-2019 term began in May. Last year, the program had sold 1,000 passes by the last week of school.
