Southern Marin fire board puts new $200 parcel tax on ballot

Residents of Strawberry and northern Tiburon will be among those to vote on a proposed $200-per-year property tax this November, part of the Southern Marin Fire Protection District plan to head off consistent budget shortfalls in coming years. The district board of directors voted unanimously at its July 25 meeting to put the new tax proposal on the Nov. 6 ballot, with the hopes of raising $3 million each year to go toward fire and emergency services. The tax would allow for an expansion of the district’s wildfire-prevention programs, but otherwise it wouldn’t bring about any major change in services, according to Southern Marin Fire Chief Chris Tubbs.
