Reed Union School district to explore early renewal of ‘critical’ parcel tax

The Reed Union School District is taking the first step toward renewing and possibly increasing a parcel tax that brings in about $2.3 million in annual revenue — funds currently dedicated to retaining teachers and maintaining academic programs at the district’s three schools. Peninsula voters who live within the school district’s boundaries — which include all of Tiburon and Belvedere — last voted to approve a parcel-tax increase and renewal in 2014. Measure B, as it was known, raised the tax from $370 to $508 per parcel of land, with a 3-percent annual cost-of-living increase, through 2022. The tax is currently at about $571; it’s slated to be to about $624 in 2022. Homeowners age 65 and older can file an annual exemption to the tax.
