Revamped garden takes root at Reed Elementary School

A long-overgrown garden at Reed Elementary School is springing back to life. The small patch of land, tucked into a corner of the campus that backs up to Lyford Drive, was just a few months ago filled with weeds, a couple of neglected garden beds and some scattered planter boxes. Now, the area sports five well-maintained garden beds, each filled with dirt, equipped with irrigation and surrounded by mulch. A pathway separates the garden bed from a row of rolling planters, each filled with dirt and lined neatly along a chain-link fence. (Elliot Karlan photo / For The Ark)
