Faulty Belvedere water pipe that broke twice isn’t on replacement list

Marin Municipal Water District says it has no plans to replace a more than half-century-old cast-iron pipeline under Cove Road that burst twice in seven months, with district officials pointing to a backlog of pipes across its 911-mile system that are older and faultier. A sudden break of the 8-inch water main on the evening of Sept. 25 at the intersection of Cove and Lagoon roads caused flooding of roads and homes in low-lying areas. Another break occurred in the same line April 18 near the intersection of Cove and Beach roads, which raised questions from nearby homeowners about whether the entire pipeline under Cove Road was faulty and in need of replacement.
