Website aims to educate Belvedere residents on flood risk

Belvedere residents curious about how the city would fare against rising sea levels and significant storm events can now see for themselves, thanks to a new interactive website that lays out the area’s earthquake and flood risks and explains how the city plans to mitigate them. The belvedereseawall.org website, which went live last week, includes a flood map that allows users to run through different scenarios — like a 50-year storm at present conditions or a king tide in 2050 — and see what parts of the Tiburon Peninsula would be underwater. It also illustrates how a natural disaster could cut off water and power to the city, hampering the ability to fight fires that often accompany earthquakes.
