Arts Commission: Tiburon should accept sculpture for public display

Tiburon’s Heritage and Arts Commission has backed a plan to accept a donated abstract sculpture for public display and is sending its recommendation to the Town Council for approval.

Acting on the advice of its own Public Art Selection Panel, the commission at its Aug. 24 teleconference meeting voted unanimously to recommend the town accept the donation of the untitled 8-foot by 5-foot work by French artist and former Tiburon resident Jean-Pierre Rives and store it until a display site is chosen.

The Town Council, which could consider the proposal as early at its Sept. 15 meeting, will vote on whether to approve the estimated cost of about $9,000 to cover transportation, storage, restoration and eventual installation at a site that also must be approved by the council.
