Bay agency gets $325k grant to protect eelgrass

The Richardson Bay Regional Agency has secured nearly $325,000 in state funding to restore and protect the bay’s eelgrass beds, an ecologically vital habitat damaged by long-term anchoring on the bay. Rebecca Schwartz Lesberg, a conservation biologist hired by the agency over the summer, said the money will allow her to finalize and implement an eelgrass protection and management plan, including pursuing necessary regulatory changes, surveying wildlife habitat, eelgrass and bay bathy­metry and educating the public about the new plan once it is complete.
