Cop charged with abuse no longer works for Tiburon

A Tiburon police sergeant facing domestic-abuse charges is no longer employed by the department.

Police Chief Ryan Monaghan on June 11 confirmed Sgt. Shane Ford’s employment status but said that due to personnel-privacy laws, he could not comment further on whether Ford had been terminated or resigned.

Ford, who was hired in 2003 and had been serving as president and CEO of the police labor union, had been on paid administrative leave since his Jan. 27 arrest on suspicion of spousal battery and inflicting “unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering on a child.” He was already on probation for a misdemeanor reckless-driving conviction in 2020.
