Local voters back Connolly and abortion rights, reject betting and millionaire tax

Tiburon Peninsula voters have helped Marin Supervisor Damon Connolly of San Rafael grab an early lead for state Assembly, enshrine reproductive choice in the state constitution and fund arts and music as core educational curriculum while rejecting an expansion of sports betting and a new tax on millionaires to fund climate and fire initiatives.

There were no big surprises in the remaining contests on the Nov. 8 ballot, as Democrats are poised to sweep all statewide offices while Marin’s other district representatives kept their seats.

Connolly, a former California deputy attorney general, was facing California Coastal Commissioner Sara Aminzadeh, vice president of the nonprofit US Water Alliance, to replace five-term Assemblyman Marc Levine, D-San Rafael, who is vacating the seat after a failed primary bid for state insurance commissioner.
