Mill Valley Film Festival includes shorts with Tiburon Peninsula ties

Tiburon’s Caroline Liviakis stars in and choreographed her new dance short, ‘Boys and Girls,’ opposite Paul Barris. The film will screen Oct. 11 — with Liviakis on hand for a question-and-answer session — and stream on demand as part of the Mill Valley Film Festival, which begins Oct. 7.

After being held almost exclusively online last year due to the pandemic, this year’s Mill Valley Film Festival is headed back to theaters with 118 films and shorts from 39 countries — including the world premiere of a dance short by Tiburon’s Caroline Liviakis and a documentary featuring pioneering Belvedere environmentalist Martin Griffin.

The 44th annual festival runs Oct. 7-17 with live screenings and in-person appearances by actors and directors at venues in Mill Valley, San Rafael and Berkeley. Proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test and facemasks are required for in-person screenings, which will be at reduced theater capacity.

As has become the norm for many events amid the pandemic, the festival will also offer an online program this year, with several of its feature-length films and shorts available to stream from home.
