Newcomers look to oust incumbents on Tiburon, Belvedere councils

Updated: Aug 31, 2022

The Tiburon town and Belvedere city councils could be headed for competitive races in the Nov. 8 election.

Tiburon Mayor Jon Welner last week pulled nomination papers to retain his four-year seat, joining fellow incumbents Jack Ryan and Alice Fredericks, who pulled papers July 19 and 20, respectively. Parks, Open Spaces and Trails Commissioner Isaac Nikfar has signaled his intent to challenge in the race, pulling nomination papers July 29.

Meanwhile, in Belvedere, Mayor Sally Wilkinson and former parks committee member Carolyn Lund have each taken out nomination papers to run for a shortened two-year term on the City Council.

The filing period for the November ballot — which also includes races for seats on the public school, fire, sanitation and recreation districts serving the Tiburon Peninsula — runs through Aug. 12, with an automatic extension to Aug. 17 only for challengers if an incumbent fails to file.
