Six winners honored in annual photo contest

One Sunday several months ago, Paula Coven and her husband, Rick, got in their pedal kayaks and headed straight out from their Paradise Cay home toward Red Rock Island. It was an unusually calm, misty morning on the water, Coven remembers.

“All I could see was the mist and Rick and his reflection (in the water), and I was just like, ‘Wow, that’s so cool,’” she says. She pulled out her phone and snapped a picture that captured the moment.

“It’s just one of those magical images, if you ask me,” Coven says.

The judges in this year’s Belvedere Community Foundation Online Photography Contest agreed, naming Coven’s photo the winner in the contest’s “2021 Reflections” category. Coven was one of six winners — and among four first-time awardees — in the milestone 20th annual contest, which accepted entries mid-August through Nov. 3.
