Tiburon again allows pickleball at Peninsula Club, with new restrictions

The town has reaffirmed its decision to allow pickleball on a converted tennis court at the Tiburon Peninsula Club, though officials slashed play hours and ordered more sound studies after complaints from several neighbors.

The 2-1 Planning Commission vote on March 27 was the second approval in three months, formalizing an activity that’s taken place at the Mar West Street club for the past five years. The last approval was in December, but the town was forced to hold a rehearing after it failed to adequately notify neighbors — in particular, some Marsh Road residents who wanted the permit denied outright.

“The continuous, high-pitch ‘clap, clap, clap’ from sometimes 16 simultaneous players has exponentially increased my stress while eliminating the de-stressing activities I used to enjoy,” said Cres Van Keulen, whose home is less than 300 feet from the club across Railroad Marsh. She and neighbor Michael Scippa had requested the rehearing.
