Tiburon council balks at pitch for booze, food trucks at McKegney Green

After an outpouring of protests from residents, the Town Council has quashed a plan to allow alcohol and food trucks at McKegney Green.

The council at its Oct. 6 meeting reviewed a proposed field-use policy prepared by the town’s Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission that would have narrowed an existing ban on alcohol to preserve it only during youth sporting events and would have allowed commercial vendors like food trucks at town-permitted events.

However, after hearing from dozens of residents concerned about noise, crowds and litter, the council decided to overrule the parks commission and directed town staff to prepare a new draft removing those provisions and amending some of the language.

A revised draft is set to come back before the council at its Oct. 20 meeting.
