Tiburon police will boost trail patrols after speeding-cyclist complaints

Following recent complaints about cyclists speeding down the heavily trafficked Old Rail Trail near Blackie’s Pasture, Tiburon police plan to increase patrols to enforce the path’s 15 mph speed limit and put up additional signage in the area warning cyclists to use caution. Tiburon interim Police Chief Jamie Scardina said the department would start sending officers out to patrol the Old Rail Trail when staff scheduling allows, and if their presence alone doesn’t curb the issue, police will begin issuing citations. “With the pandemic, there are more people who are out walking and biking to get fresh air,” he said, adding that the crowds make it difficult for bikes and pedestrians to navigate around each other.
