Tiburon residents get emergency prep tips during evacuation drill

Some four dozen residents of Tiburon’s Bel Aire and Reed neighborhoods got a crash course in emergency preparedness June 4 during an evacuation drill organized by the Southern Marin Fire Protection District.

Upon receiving an evacuation alert from AlertMarin, the county’s emergency phone, text and email service, residents walked or cycled to the designated meeting point at Bel Aire Elementary School, where they received more information about how to best prepare for a future emergency, including having a go-bag packed and the best ways to receive crucial information from authorities.

The streets included in the voluntary drill included all of Blackfield Drive, residents east of Vista Tiburon Drive, Monterey Drive and Reedland Woods Way and west of Blackfield to Cayford Drive, Irving Court and Andrew Drive.

The event, held in partnership with the Tiburon Police Department, was one of several hosted this month by the fire district in Southern Marin, whose jurisdiction includes Strawberry and northern Tiburon west of Trestle Glen Boulevard. Tiburon Fire Protection District officials say they’re working with Tiburon and Belvedere police on rolling out drills in its jurisdiction as well.
