Tiburon’s iconic Lyford House getting a $125,000 facelift

Visitors walking the grounds of the Richardson Bay Audubon Center and Sanctuary in Tiburon might notice that Lyford House, the iconic landmark that sits on a bluff over Richardson Bay, looks downright scary. A year after the Audubon center closed to the public due to the pandemic, the Lyford House is streaked with mold. Its front door is broken, and some of its windows are too. It is surrounded by waist-high weeds. However, big things are happening inside the 145-year-old Victorian, which is undergoing a $125,000 renovation expected to be complete sometime this spring. The building will look good as new when Audubon can once again open its doors to visitors, Arndt said. She said the center plans to reopen for bird watching and nature walks once Marin County advances to the third, or orange, tier, indicating moderate transmission of the virus on the state’s four-tier color-coded blueprint for reopening the economy.
