Reed district board approves new fencing, gates at Bel Aire school

Bel Aire Elementary School will get new fencing and gates in front of its main office as part of a plan to make the campus more secure — but similar safety measures proposed for Del Mar Middle School will be delayed until the Reed Union School District maps out its long-term facilities master plan. The district board of trustees at its Nov. 12 meeting voted 4-1, with member Amy Jacobs dissenting, to approve a fencing plan for Bel Aire that as designed would add L-shaped fences with electronic gates on either side of the school’s main office to cut off access to the campus from the school’s parking lot. The plan also calls for fencing and a gate restricting access to the staircase that leads to the school’s multiuse building.
