Marin asks for input on trails for Ring Mountain, Old St. Hilary’s

County officials are asking locals to weigh in on a proposed formal road-and-trail system for the Ring Mountain and Old St. Hilary’s open-space preserves — a project aimed at better balancing public access and resource protection.

Marin County Parks unveiled the draft trail maps for both Tiburon open spaces at a Nov. 17 virtual forum. The public can comment on the plans through Jan. 18 via email, by signing up for virtual office hours with parks staff or by attending tabling events scheduled at the sites.

The parks department will use that feedback to finalize the maps, which will then go through environmental review — with additional opportunities for public comment — and a permitting process. After that, the department will get to work restoring the designated trails to protect sensitive habitats and optimize public access and closing off unofficial trails that didn’t make the list. Funding for the work will come from Measure A, a quarter-cent sales tax passed by county voters in 2012 to support parks and open space.
