Storms wallop Tiburon Peninsula

A series of storms have battered the Tiburon Peninsula and greater Bay Area over the past several weeks, dumping 10.72 inches of rain on Tiburon between Dec. 29 and early Jan. 9, downing trees and causing flooding in some low-lying areas. Residents likely won’t have much time to dry off, as forecasts suggest more wet weather is in store this weekend.

Last week’s storm delivered a mix of heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 28 mph locally, though officials say the peninsula fared pretty well compared to other parts of the Bay Area, which saw widespread power outages, coastal erosion and serious flooding that in some cases prompted evacuations.

A so-called bomb cyclone Jan. 4-5 — a storm fueled by a rapid drop of barometric pressure in a short period — came on the heels of a New Year’s Eve storm that dropped nearly 3 inches of rain locally overnight and was followed by additional rainfall last weekend.
