A pair of new benches will be installed on the northern end of Belvedere’s Tom Price Park with a $5,000 grant from the Belvedere Community Foundation. The Belvedere Parks and Open Space Committee at its March 11 teleconference meeting unanimously approved the new benches, despite uncertainty over a years-old moratorium on new park benches under a city policy dealing with public memorials. A discussion on the moratorium has been slated for the committee’s May meeting. Parks committee Chair Bryan Kemnitzer said he had spoken with City Attorney Emily Longfellow about the moratorium, and they determined it applies to public memorial benches — those dedicated in honor of a loved one — not benches in general.
