James Mantegani

James William Mantegani died peacefully in his Tiburon home surrounded by his family on January 6, 2018.

Jim was born to Fred and Ruth Mantegani August 30, 1951. After being the first baby baptized at the "new" St. Hilary's Catholic Church, Jim spent his entire 66 years of life in Tiburon. Jim grew up in Tiburon and was the third generation to run his family's grocery store The Corner Market. The Corner Market was started by Baldassare ("Pop") Mantegani, who emigrated from Italy. The store remained in the family for 52 years.

Jim was always proud of his time serving his country in the United States Air Force Reserve as a paramedic from 1970-1976. He attended Golden Gate University and graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in accounting in 1974. Jim married his wife, the love of this life, Pamela Rae Gustafson, at St. Hilary's church on June 22, 1974. Jim, alongside his wife, Pam, ran the family store for many years. He retired after 42 years in the grocery industry to enjoy time with his wife, hunting dog Casey, and grandchildren.

Jim was an avid hunter from the age of 7. For the last nine years, he enjoyed hunting with his dog Casey as well as the comradery of the hunting environment, and hunted duck, deer, elk, pheasant, and abalone. He passed this love of the outdoors on to his children and grandchildren through time spent camping, fishing, abalone diving, and pheasant hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Pam; three daughters, Jacqueline (Leif) Tiley of Fort Collins, Colo., Nicole (Jason) Holder of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Michelle (Franco) Arieta of San Francisco; six grandchildren, Camden (11) and Jillian (8) Tiley, Michael (9) and Marcella (7) Arieta, and Jacob (6) and Alexander (4) Holder.
