Tiburon council set to review trimmed library expansion next week


Scaled-back plans to expand the Belvedere-Tiburon Library are headed to the Tiburon Town Council for review. At its Aug. 15 meeting, the council is expected to vote on whether to approve the revised plans, which lop off a previously proposed second story to hold construction costs at $18 million. The meeting is tentatively set to begin at 7:15 p.m. at Tiburon Town Hall and is open to the public. Library officials have used various figures to approximate the size of the one-story addition, but the existing 10,500-square-foot library, located at 1501 Tiburon Blvd., is now expected to be expanded by 9,725 square feet, to 20,225 square feet. The project originally approved by the Town Council in 2012 called for a 15,725-square-foot two-story addition — for a total of 26,225 square feet — to be built for about $14 million in what is now the library’s and Tiburon Town Hall’s shared parking lot.
