Belvedere reluctantly OKs 19.5% garbage-rate increase

Belvedere officials reluctantly agreed to a 19.5-percent increase in citywide garbage-collection rates this year, but they also asked the Mill Valley Refuse Service to make the city its “guinea pig” and speed up efforts to begin implementing recycling changes that could reduce costs. The Belvedere City Council on Aug. 13 voted 4-1, with Nancy Kemnitzer dissenting, to accept the new rate proposal from the refuse service.
