The Tiburon Boulevard crosswalk at Stewart Drive — Tiburon’s worst intersection for injury car accidents — is being targeted for more safety improvements as officials hope to install pole-mounted rapid-flashing, high-intensity beacons like those at Ned’s Way and to remove extraneous, distracting signs. As is typical with Tiburon Boulevard projects, however, the big catch is that it’s a state-owned highway, also known as Highway 131, so Tiburon would be added to the bottom of Caltrans’ queue as it works on similar projects throughout the state. A rollout of the proposed changes could take years, according to Tiburon Public Works Director Patrick Barnes. (Elliot Karlan archive photo / For The Ark)
