Belvedere’s storied Lava House may get cleared out, fenced off

December 5, 2018

The storied Belvedere Island property known as the Lava House, long a draw for young trespassers and partyers after decades of real estate fights left it abandoned, may soon be cleared out and completely fenced off. The owners of the property, which occupies four lots from 399 to 419 Belvedere Ave., are proposing to remove the namesake lava rocks, concrete and construction debris that have made the site a draw for people to catch the spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Sausalito — and often partake in a few illegal activities in the meantime. The $600,000 proposal, which would also install a new 6-foot-tall wire fence across the street side of the property, is coming to a hearing of the Belvedere Planning Commission Dec. 18 at City Hall, 450 San Rafael Ave. (Elliot Karlan photo / For The Ark)
