Little damage as Tiburon Peninsula hit with 25 mph gusts, 1.5 inches rain in mid-week storm

January 23, 2019

A powerful storm walloped the Tiburon Peninsula last week, dropping more than an inch of rain and knocking out power to much of Strawberry for several hours as gusts reached in excess of 25 mph. The peninsula got hit with several days of rain early in the week before a Pacific storm intensified on Wednesday, dropping just under 1½ inches of rain overnight on Jan. 16, according to Weather Underground. The storm brought powerful winds that felled some small branches around the peninsula, as well as the Greenwood Cove Road/Blackfield Drive median sign for outbound Tiburon Boulevard drivers. However, officials from Tiburon and Belvedere reported there were no significant incidents, crediting preparations taken in advance of the storms. (Elliot Karlan photo / For The Ark)
