Darrell Clark
Darrell Clark passed away peacefully on January 12th, 2019, in Corte Madera, California, under the care of loved ones. He was 82 years old.
Born to Donald and Stacia Clark on May 3, 1936, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was the Clarks’ youngest son, with one older brother, Donald Clark. Darrell grew up moving around the western part of the United States with his family. Finally settling in El Centro, California, he graduated from Central Union High School in 1954 and first met the young lady who would become his wife, Nancy Kay Clark. Continuing his education at San Diego State University, he played football and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
After graduating from the university in 1958, he and Kay were married in El Centro, California on June 21, 1958. Darrell then enlisted in the U.S. Navy to attend officers’ school and then served as a lieutenant junior grade beginning in 1961. He was stationed in and sailed to many ports internationally such as Japan and Guam. Spending so much time on duty in Japan, Darrell developed a taste for Japanese food, which became one of his favorites to enjoy. His family has many memories of going to Cho-Cho, a Japanese restaurant in San Francisco, to enjoy some of Dad’s favorite food.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, Darrell gained employment with IBM in Richmond, California. His first job with IBM was to sell their typewriters door to door. Upon his employment with IBM, Darrell and Kay first moved to Mill Valley. Ten years later, when children Tim and Megan arrived, they built their home in Tiburon, California in which they raised their family and lived for 50 years.
Darrell loved to spend time with his family in the outdoors. An avid skier and boater, he and the family spent many seasons in Lake Tahoe skiing the slopes in the winter and swimming and water skiing in the summer. Darrell retired from IBM in 1991 after 30 years with the company. After his retirement, Darrell and Kay spent most of their time boating in the San Juan and Canadian Gulf islands and in the California Delta on their boat Mojo.
Friends and family remember Darrell as a warm and friendly man who endeared everyone he met with his wit and sense of humor. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Darrell leaves behind his wife, Nancy Kay Clark; his son Timothy Clark; daughter Megan Clark; and his grandchildren Zackary and Alyssa Clark. Darrell was a true family man who was a devoted husband and father. His family came first, and he loved to spend as much time as he could with them.
The Clark family is extremely grateful to all the friends, caregivers, and medical professionals who supported and enriched Darrell’s life while living at Aegis for the past two years.
