Aptly named fiddleneck common in open spaces of Marin County

April 3, 2019

Lovely small yellow and orange blossoms curl over the top of a hairy flowering stem like the head of a fiddle. Hence, the common name for Amsinckia: fiddleneck. Amsinckia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Boraginaceae. Other flowers in the Borage family include: Pride of Madeira, hound’s tongue, Yerba Santa, forget-me-not and popcorn flower. Look for these borage flowers at Deer Island, Angel Island, Cascade Canyon and other open spaces in Marin. (Joan Linn Bekins photo / For The Ark)
