Construction to shore up a 120-foot stretch of crumbling Beach Road seawall has wrapped up about three weeks earlier than expected and about $40,000 under budget, Belvedere officials say. Crews last month began work to fortify a portion of the 100-year-old seawall, which separates the Belvedere Lagoon from Belvedere Cove, near Peninsula Road and the China Cabin. The city had determined in 2017 the stretch of seawall had been shifting and was in danger of collapse, and it declared a state of emergency to expedite a fix. (Elliot Karlan photo / For The Ark)
