Belvedere to dip into reserves to tackle city projects

Belvedere officials anticipate the city will have to dip into its savings by more than half a million dollars next fiscal year to fund $1.6 million in capital-improvement projects, to provide raises and training to nearly all staff and to continue operations of its full-service Police Department that brought on a new chief earlier this month. At its May 13 meeting, the City Council unpacked a $9.26 million draft operating budget for fiscal year 2019-2020 on $8.61 million in revenues, with a spending gap of about $654,000 to be covered by reserves and funds carried over from last year.
