Strawberry teen’s girls camp aims to spark passion for science

The dozen middle-school girls scattered in groups across the lawn at the Branson School in Ross were hard at work designing fizzy rockets, water bottles that propel into the air when filled with the right combination of pressurized vinegar and baking soda. After a few test runs, the girls were doing what scientists do — refining their experiment. They used cups, paper, pipe cleaners and more to create launching pads, add wings and make other adjustments aimed at making their water bottles more aerodynamic. The fizzy rockets were just one of the projects the girls worked on during last week’s free science camp created and organized by Strawberry resident and rising Branson senior Margot Mead.
