Strawberry rec district eyes state grant to help fund community center
The Strawberry Recreation District is hosting a series of meetings to solicit public feedback on its planned community center as part of its effort to win a multimillion-dollar California State Parks grant for the building’s construction. The district plans to apply for the competitive grant under the parks department’s statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program. The program aims to create new parks and recreation opportunities in critically underserved communities across California. Funding for the program comes from Proposition 68, a $4 billion bond passed by state voters in June 2018 for parks, water and climate and environmental programs. Some $650 million will be granted to applicants through multiple rounds of funding; there’s about $254.9 million available during this round.
