Tests turn up first clean sample at bacteria-plagued Tiburon shorelines

Pollution tests of Tiburon’s shoreline water turned up clean last week for the first time since a May pipe break sent hundreds of gallons of sewage into Richardson Bay — but public-health officials say they’ll need one more clean test before they declare the water safe to enter. The clean test comes after the Regional Water Quality Control Board on July 24 issued a direct order to the town of Tiburon, Richardson Bay Sanitary District to get to the bottom of unsafe levels of enterococcus, a bacteria typically present in human and animal fecal matter, that have lingered in the water for months.
