Tiburon gives green light to downtown visitor center

The Tiburon Peninsula Chamber of Commerce can move forward with plans to turn a long-vacant storefront in downtown Tiburon into a local visitor center and retail space. The Planning Commission at its Aug. 14 meeting voted 4-0, with Commissioner Jeff Tsai absent, to approve a conditional use permit for the center. The use permit was necessary because the space at 1704 Tiburon Blvd. is currently authorized exclusively for retail business — a move the Tiburon Town Council made in 2013 to bar real-estate offices from moving in. The 1,295-square-foot storefront on Fountain Plaza is to be known as the Tiburon Peninsula Welcome Center and will be used to promote the area’s businesses, historical landmarks and local events.
