Cops: Man seeking mental-health help arrested after leaving loaded gun at Tiburon park

A San Rafael man was arrested last week at Tiburon Fire Protection District headquarters after he allegedly abandoned a loaded handgun in Shoreline Park and walked into the downtown fire station seeking mental-health services. Police briefly questioned the man, with authorities saying he was cooperative but had difficultly remembering anything from the past two weeks. He was placed under arrest for an outstanding felony warrant out of Sonoma County. Officers then drove him to the Shoreline Park area where he said he’d left the gun, police said, and allegedly discovered it in the riprap just east of the Tiburon Boulevard-Paradise Drive roundabout. The gun, wrapped in a sweatshirt, was loaded with a magazine containing 10 bullets, one of which was in the chamber, and the safety was off, police said.
