Reed Union schools board asks for more info before approving fences

The Reed Union School District is considering installing fencing and gates at the front of Bel Aire Elementary and Del Mar Middle schools — but the first draft of the plan will require some tweaking after board members questioned whether the barriers as designed would be the most effective way to secure the campuses. The board viewed and discussed the plans at its Oct. 15 meeting but chose not to vote on the proposal after several members expressed concerns about the aesthetics of the fencing and whether the barriers would serve their intended purpose of funneling visitors through each school’s main office. The board asked district officials to do some additional research and return with that information to a future meeting.
