PG&E begins process to restore Tiburon Peninsula power; area not on list for Tuesday shutoff

Updated 5:37 p.m. — PG&E has now confirmed it will go ahead with its next power-shutoff event beginning Tuesday morning in portions of 29 counties, including parts of Marin. Its potential-shutoff-area map, however, continues to show that Tiburon, Belvedere and portions of Strawberry will not be impacted. Strawberry's Eagle Rock neighborhood, north of Highway 101, appears to be slated to lose power, as well as the Strawberry Village Shopping Center and adjacent neighborhood to the north, between South Knoll Road and the Redwood Highway frontage road, portions of De Silva Island, and coastal western Strawberry along Seminary Drive and Topside Way. The map, however, is approximate and tentative, so all residents should be prepared for the potential of another outage beginning Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Reed Union School District has announced that its three local schools, as well as all public schools across Marin County, will remain closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Officials on Wednesday will then assess whether schools need to remain closed due to continued outages.

Updated 11:15 a.m. — With winds subsiding in the Sierra foothills and North Coast, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. has begun restoring power, including informing Marin County officials at 6 this morning that it has started the process of inspecting local infrastructure, county spokesman Laine Hendricks said in a press release.

PG&E has warned, however, that it could take up to 48 hours — or longer — for those inspections to be completed and for power to actually be turned back on. For the Tiburon Peninsula, power should be restored between today and Wednesday under PG&E estimates.

Earlier PG&E outage maps that showed power had been at least partially restored in the Paradise Drive corridor from Paradise Cay to Lyford Cove appear to have been erroneous; residents are reporting their power is still off, and updated maps again show the region without power.

While the utility has now scheduled another widespread outage from Tuesday morning through Thursday, including in areas across Marin, the greater Tiburon Peninsula is mostly not included in the newly announced shutoff plan, according to PG&E maps of 10 a.m., though a swath of coastal western Strawberry, as well as areas near the Highway 101 interchange, may be included.
