Tiburon Peninsula now may be part of Tuesday power shutdown

Portions of the greater Tiburon Peninsula likely will be included in Pacific Gas and Electric Co's second round of power outages starting early tomorrow morning.

The utility announced that the next severe-wind event will begin Tuesday morning and last through mid-day Wednesday. Once PG&E declares the all-clear — that the weather event itself has passed — it will then begin the process of inspecting lines and other infrastructure. Power will begin to be restored once those inspections are complete. All told, the process could take up to 48 hours, which could push outages into Friday afternoon.

The power shutoff is slated for portions of 29 counties, including parts of Marin. While its potential-shutoff-area map continues to show that Tiburon, Belvedere and most of Strawberry will not be impacted, the map is only an approximation. Using PG&E's address-lookup tool, an Ark survey of multiple addresses throughout the peninsula returned varying results, but most stated: "Due to gusty winds and dry conditions, combined with a heightened fire risk, PG&E may need to turn off power for public safety at this address in the next 12 hours."

Some residents may not get their power fully restored from the current shutoff before PG&E enacts its next round of outages.

Meanwhile, the Reed Union School District has announced that its three local schools — as well as all public schools across Marin County, including Redwood and Tam high schools — will remain closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Officials on Wednesday will then assess whether schools need to remain closed due to continued outages.
